Tokyo International Airport (HND)
Airport Information

(Tokyo, Japan)

Tokyo Airport (HND) Information: Photo of the skyline taken from aboveSited some 15 km / 9 miles south-west of central Tokyo, Haneda Airport (HND) is also close to Kawasaki and Yokohama, and lies on the Japanese island of Honshu. The airport is well linked to central Tokyo by road, rail and monorail links, being an important hub for Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways.

Originally, Haneda was the major international airport serving Tokyo, but now most international flights arrive and depart at the newer Narita Airport. Today, Haneda Airport serves mainly domestic routes apart from four flights a day to Gimpo Airport in Seoul, South Korea, from the International Terminal. Despite the lack of international flights, Haneda Airport is still the busiest airport in Japan and the fourth busiest airport on the entire planet, handling around 65 million passengers a year.

There are two main terminals at Haneda Airport - Terminal 1, also known as Big Bird, and Terminal 2, which are linked by an underground tunnel with a moving walkway. A free shuttle bus service runs every five minutes between the two terminals and the International Terminal. There are Tokyo monorail stations at terminals 1 and 2, while the train station is located in the pedestrian corridor and links the two terminals.

About Tokyo Tourism

Tokyo is a major Japanese city and visitors with both tourism and business on their agenda regular fly into the city's nearby Haneda Airport. For businessmen, many major corporations reside in this part of Japan, particularly around the bustling Shinjuku district, considered by many to be the very heart of the city. Many leading Tokyo hotels are based here, as well as within the neighbourhoods of Ginza, Ikebukuro and Shibuya, the latter being a rather trendy spot which has grown around the busy Shibuya Station.

However, if tourism is on your mind, then Tokyo cannot fail to appeal, with leading attractions such as the many shrines within Ueno Park, the traditional gardens in the Jindai Botanical Park, the beautiful 17th-century Asakusa Shrine, the exciting Hanayashiki Amusement Park, and the gleaming Tokyo Tower, where you can enjoy stunning views of Mount Fuji and beyond.

Haneda Airport (HND) is well placed for tourists intending to visit either Tokyo or neighbouring Yokohama, being sited next to Kawasaki and alongside the Pacific coastline. The attractions on the southern side of the city are especially close and these include the Tokyo International Pier, the Hamarikyu-teien Palace Gardens, the endless shopping around the Ginza district, and the roller coaster attractions at the Tokyo Disneyland resort, next to the bay itself.
